GLOBAL MUSLIM NEWS

EYES ON PALESTINE

Updates from Al Jazeera as of Sept 16th, 2025: 48 killed as Israeli army launches ground invasion of Gaza City - they are being subject to “heavy, relentless” bombardment. Israel has ramped up its attack of the city, destroying even more residential buildings and killing hundreds more.

On the 15th, UC Berkeley’s Hellen Diller Institute was hosting Avi Milikovsky —the senior “Israeli” state attorney who argued during the Great March of Return in Gaza (2018–19) that the use of deadly force against unarmed Palestinian civilians is legally justified. Milikovsky personally argued in court that international human rights protections don't apply to Palestinian protesters. He bears responsibility for the shooting of 7,996 Palestinian protestors with live ammunition, systematically targeting lower limbs and killing 214 people, including 46 children. The Diller Institute presents this lecture as a discussion of “equality” and “discriminat[ion]” in Israel’s military conscription—“one of Israel’s most profound and enduring societal conflicts.” The reality is that he is here to discuss whether some Jewish Israelis should be exempt from participating in genocide against Palestinians. Alhamdulillah students and allies showed up and took up space where we are not wanted, standing for Palestine, and resisting the normalization of genocide and the legitimization of Zionism, successfully making the event shut down.

Despite these hardships, our Ummah in Palestine, Sudan, Indonesia, and beyond has continued to demonstrate inspiring resilience and strength. We owe it to them to take action. We will continue to provide updates in the coming months, but we highly encourage you to continue educating yourself on the genocide and humanitarian devastation in Palestine and throughout the Muslim ummah through our provided resources, and to contribute. Even $1 makes a difference.
