DUA OF THE MONTH

Taken from the morning and evening remembrances of the Prophet ﷺ, this du'a seeks Allah’s protection from every direction. It is a befitting du'a for the people of Gaza, people of Sudan, the Uyghur Muslims, and our brothers and sisters across the world who are surrounded by hostility and violence.

Allahumma ustur ‘awraatihim wa-aamin raw’aatihim wahfadhhum min bayni aydeehim wa min khalfihim wa ‘an aymaanihim wa ‘an shamaa’ilihim wa min fawqihim

O Allah, conceal their faults, calm their fears, and protect them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left, and from above them.

GLOBAL MUSLIM NEWS

Welcome back to the Global Muslim News section of the MSA newsletter. As we continue to strive to be part of the worldwide ummah: a community that is bound together by shared faith, history, and responsibility, let us stay informed and connected regarding the humanitarian crises and political developments across Muslim countries.

EYES ON PALESTINE

Since the ceasefire went into effect on October 10th, a moment many hoped would finally bring relief to the people of Gaza, the violence has only intensified. In the span of just three weeks, more than 220 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces, with over 100 killed in a single 24-hour period. Medics in Gaza reported at least 236 Palestinians killed and some 600 wounded since the truce, just from renewed strikes and demolitions. And yet our brothers and sisters stay steadfast in their trust and faith in Allah SWT. The least we can do is advocate and use our voices as young people, even if it seems like a small effort. If you can't speak up, donate, and if you can't donate, continue making dua for our Palestinian brothers and sisters.

SUDAN’S FALL OF El FASHER

You’ve likely heard ‘All Eyes on Sudan’ on social media, but it’s not quite enough for us to simply keep eyes on the nation. Sudan is currently experiencing a humanitarian crisis that has continued to worsen, particularly with the fall of el-Fasher to the RSF (Rapid Support Forces). Tens of thousands have passed away, and more than 12 million have been displaced. This has been the largest recorded and fastest displacement crisis in the world, and the largest humanitarian crisis ever recorded, according to the International Rescue Committee. The UN Secretary General has coined the RSF’s recent actions a ‘terrible escalation’ and has called the current suffering ‘unbearable.’ From ‘summary executions’ of civilians fleeing from attack to mass killings in El-Fasher, there are now thousands more fleeing as the RSF prepares a new offensive on currently Sudanese-controlled el-Obeid. Over 1200 were displaced from Bara and Un Rawaba in North Kordofan last Friday alone, and over 36,000 have been displaced since last week in the region.

The catastrophic humanitarian crisis is compounded with tens of thousands starving and trapped inside el-Fasher, with footage showing more and more horror stories.

Famine has also been detected by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) in el-Fasher and Kadugli. Following the IPC’s detection of famine in Gaza in August, the monitor has also noted that 20 other areas in the region are at risk of famine condition classification, demonstrating the severity of the crisis.

The RSF is also, finally, under investigation for war crimes by the International Criminal Court, with the current investigation progressing through evidence stages.

Educating ourselves on the struggles of our Ummah abroad is a first step, but it’s not enough. We must do more than just raise awareness — it is essential to donate to imperative causes such as the Sudan Relief Fund
